    <dc:description>"Camuscross (or Camus Croise) has an outstandingly well-preserved crofting landscape. The crofts were created during the clearances of the nineteenth century. In order to gain open space for sheep farming, local landlords forcibly removed tenants from their traditional scattered farms. Many evicted tenants emigrated, while others were relocated to new townships such as Camuscross, where they were given small crofts and shared a limited area of common land. Camuscross has some of the smallest crofts in the Highlands, with each plot being only two or three acres. Because they had so little land, the residents of Camuscross kept donkeys rather than horses \u2013 leading to the area being known as \u2018donkey town\u2019." </dc:description>
