Màiri Chaimbeul, Jenna Moynihan & Speyfest
Màiri Chaimbeul, on harp, from Skye and Jenna Moynihan, on fiddle, from Lakewood, NY, play contemporary music rooted in traditional Scottish and Appalachian Old-Time music. Jenna and Màiri have developed a sound which celebrates and explores beautiful melodies. They met whilst studying at Berklee College of Music and are a product of the thriving and rich Boston music community. Jenna and Màiri have both been heavily steeped in tradition, but their music breathes new life into old tunes and merges their wide-ranging influences into a sound that is at once grounded and adventurous. They are joined by Màiri's sister Brìghde who is the current Radio 2 Young Folk Musician of the Year. The evening opens with musicians from 'The Young Entertainer' a Speyfest project to encourage and give young trad musicians an opportunity to perform. The finalists are out on tour of the Highlands with clarsach, fiddles, whistles/small pipes, scots song and creative dance.Date: 09/04/17
