Rideout and Forrest will play the original pieces and McLachlan will follow with Chisholm\u2019s fascinating interpretations, including brief discussions of the music. In the second half, the programme looks briefly at piobaireachd, and explores, with readings, how the mythical work of James MacPherson\u2019s \u2018Ossian\u2019 inspired Chisholm\u2019s stunningly virtuosic \u2018Night Song of the Bards\u2019. Chisholm was the leading Scottish modernist composer, and McLachlan is one of his foremost advocates. Rideout has recorded many of the Patrick MacDonald Airs, and Forrest has an intimate understanding of the piobaireachd, which inspired Chisholm. \"Murray McLachlan is a pianist with a virtuoso technique and a sure sense of line.
