Skye and Lochalsh Orchestra Spring Concert

Playing part of Stravinsky's 'Firebird Suite'; 'The Blue Danube' by J Strauss; Handel's 'Water Music'; 2 Dances from 'The Bartered Bride' by Smetena,; Fouré's 'Pavane' Op 50, and Haydn's 'Surprise Symphony'. SLO is an amateur orchestra, conducted by Iain Roden, the members of which reside on the Isle of Skye and its mainland neighbour, Lochalsh, a locale covering some 1000 sq. miles and with a population of about 12,500. Rehearsals are approximately fortnightly in term time and are held mainly in Broadford, which is the most central location. It gives concerts around the region, though mainly in Broadford and Sabhal Mor Ostaig, in Sleat, in the spring and just before Christmas. There is also a Skye & Lochalsh Schools' Orchestra the members of which are drawn from the area's primary and secondary schools, and some of these talented young players also play in the main orchestra.
