National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland - Jazz and Film night

The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland are in residence at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig this week. The Jazz Ambassadors, led by Skye Jazz resident Rick Taylor present a programme of jazz followed by a showing of 'Round Midnight' - Herbie Hancock's Oscar-winning score jazzes up this tribute to be-bop starring Dexter Gordon as a sax player and Francois Cluzet as the young man who idolizes him. Berangere: Gabrielle Haker. Buttercup: Sandra Reaves-Phillips. Darcey: Lonette McKee. Sylvie: Christine Pascal. Ace: Bobby Hutcherson. Hancock also appears as Eddie, and Martin Scorsese cameos as Goodley. Bertrand Tavernier directed. The story of Dale Turner, a famous tenor saxophone player in Paris in the 1950s is befriended by Francis, a struggling French graphic designer specializing in film posters, who idolizes the musician and who tries desperately to help him to escape alcohol abuse. As he succeeds, the budding friendship they develop changes their lives forever.
