Description: Cahalen and Eli release their much-awaited new album, 'Our Lady of The Tall Trees' where lean vocal harmonies entwine over a whirr of clawhammer banjo and ringing guitar strings. I write 95 per cent of our material." After their recent appearance on BBC Alba's Horo Gheallaidh it is time to get them to Skye. http://cahalenandeli.com/ They are supported by the The Kilcawley Family, an old-time country duo from North England. http://kilcawleyfamily.com/home/

Title: Anda Union Mongolian singers
Description: Anda means blood brother or sister in Mongolian and is more important than a sibling because you choose a person to become a life-long Anda. Anda Union is a kinship of Andas. Anda Union’s thoroughly addictive and accessible fusion of Mongolian musical styles draws directly from the band’s roots in the differing ethnic nomadic cultures. The band’s nine members are keenly aware of the threat climate change and modernity is posing to their grasslands habitat and ancient Mongolian culture. Formed in 2000 Anda Union all trained in traditional Mongolian music from a young age, many coming from musical families. They are leaders in a musical movement finding inspiration in the old music. Driven to preserve an endangered way of life by keeping their music alive, as a group they hold on to the essence of Mongolian music whilst creating a form of music that is new. They have influenced a generation of young Mongolians in Inner Mongolia as traditional music flourishes in the capital, Hohhot.

Title: Anne Martin and Jason Singh with 'Routes' World Premiere
Description: Fresh from its launch in Hull's City of Culture programme and on its way to London's Southbank, tonight's show is a remarkable coup for SEALL with which to launch the Skye Festival. Anne Martin, Gaelic singer, was born and brought up in Trotternish on the Isle of Skye. She learned her tradition from older neighbours and relatives and has been singing and researching Gaelic song since childhood. She recently received a PRS biennial award to produce the short piece 'Ceumannan' (steps, strides) working with vocal sculptor Jason Singh, for the Hull City of Culture programme. Then as part of an ATLAS Arts project on Skye, Anne and Jason visited India, researching Jason's background, to complement Anne's understanding of her own roots. They created a layering of contemporary music for Anne's traditional Gaelic song and collaborated with well known Indian musicians Sharat Chandra Srivastava and Gyan Singh. Out of this has grown 'Routes' which tonight receives its World Premier on Skye

Title: Bruce Molsky, fiddle
Description: Bruce is a singer, fiddle player, banjo player and guitarist with regular appearances at the Celtic Connections Festival and BBC Alba's ‘Transatlantic Sessions’. He has lived his musical life incorporating the sounds of his travels, which have taken the Bronx-born musician from Appalachia to Australia and just about everywhere in between. “Community is integral to the music,” Molsky explains. “Most of us started playing in a social context. The music is all about pulse and heartbeat - everybody has that, it’s just expressed a little differently in different places. There’s always common ground that we can find.” Bruce is one of those rare musicians who plays genuine folk music supported by a deep academic understanding of where it comes from. Title: Carlos Becu in concert
Description: Music from the great Astor Piazzolla along with a selection of tango classics like Gallo Ciego, Recuerdo, el Choclo and La cumparista y Quejas de bandoneón. Carlos Becú was born in Argentina during 1979 and his father lives in Broadford, Skye. During 1995 he started studying at Music University, Rosario In 2000 he left for Europe visiting the Scottish Highlands, Hamburg and Germany where he remained until 2004. His love for the great Astor Piazzolla’s music and then for the traditional tango composers, such as Troilo, Pugliese and Di Sarli made him go back home to Argentina to learn the main tango instrument, the mighty Bandoneon. The bandoneón is a type of concertina particularly popular in Argentina and Uruguay. It plays an essential role in the orquesta tipica, the tango orchestra. In 2008, Carlos recorded his first solo album, BANDONEON SOLO, which includes some of the great classics e.g. Sur, Adios Nonino and Che Bandoneón, all interpreted with both feeling and technique. Carlos is joined by Martin Espindola (Buenos Aires) & Linda Nichols. Martin's passion of tango music and his endless enthusiasm of exploring the mechanics of the body's movement, along with his experience of contemporary dance, allows him to show the endless possibilities of free expression into the dance. Title: Charlie Parr and the Black Twig Pickers
Description: Its not often the phrase ‘barnstorming’ is used appropriately but this raucous and raw touring double bill of Virginia’s Black Twig Pickers and Minnesota’s Charlie Parr surely justifies such rabid anticipation. With little more than a National resonator guitar in hand and his earnestly rasping voice, Charlie is rapidly becoming a cult proposition in the UK and elsewhere. And teaming up with the Black Twig Pickers for this tour will only increase that. The two acts often play together in the US, so these shows will be a real musical tinderbox that can soon escalate into wild whisky-fuelled sessions where the boundaries between the two acts starts to evaparate and the audience erupts.

Title: Jaipur Brass Band
Description: In India, brass bands are the sound of life. No festivity or event, and certainly no wedding, is complete without the sound of trumpets, trombones, clarinets, tubas and marching drums playing in rousing celebration. The Jaipur Kawa Brass Band continue this tradition, adding flavours from their own Rajasthani gypsy culture as well as influences picked up in their travels to the style that has developed since brass bands were introduced in India in the mid-eighteenth century. Artistic director Hameed Khan comes from a long line of folk and classical musicians and has studied western as well as eastern music to give Jaipur Kawa a sound all of its own. Intricate rhythms, virtuoso improvisations, English brass band roots and Bollywood film music converge in a presentation that also features a spectacular gypsy dancer and sabre-swallowing fakir. Last year's similar visit from 'Musafir' brought out SEALL's largest ever audience.

Title: Russell deCarle with Denis Keldie and Steve Briggs
Description: Bound together by a superlative level of playing and performance that is rare and precious, Russell deCarle with Denis Keldie and Steve Briggs are as close to joined-at-the-hip perfection as can ever be encountered. The musicianship is dazzling even when the tone is understated and in the gentlest of ‘nice and easy does it’ grooves. Golden-haired Russell delivers his rock ‘n’ roll in crowned-King crooner style as his monstrously talented sidekicks take virtuoso into a stratosphere that lies somewhere between JJ Cale and the very best Gyspy Jazz you ever heard. deCarle famously fronted iconic country roots band 'Prairie Oyster' and is a classy cat whose heart knows how to deliver a lyric. All three have served their time – this is old-school masterclass.

Title: Skip Gorman in concert
Description: Skip Gorman brings back to life the workaday world of the early settlers of the American West. His music is not the music of the Hollywood cowboy, but rather the simple, yet beautifully poignant music that was performed around campfires by cowboys and westward settlers in the 19th century. Skip brings to the music a scholar's knowledge of the cowboy's Celtic, Spanish and Afro-American roots as well as the personal experience gained by working as a cowboy on a ranch in Wyoming, along with an exquisite touch as a singer, guitarist, fiddler and mandolinist. After a first visit to south Skye in 2014, Skip was top of the list to be invited back again.
