Title: 'Albert Herring' the opera
Description: Britten's 'Albert Herring' is a comic opera set in the imaginary East Suffolk town of Loxford at the turn of the 20th century. The score contains some of Britten’s wittiest musical invention and his gifts for parody and caricature are given full rein. Young Opera is a company run by Sara Reynolds who is Head of Voice at the Junior Royal Academy of Music, London. The young singers are either JRAM students or Sara's private pupils and the group prides itself on presenting standards of a professsional level whilst remaining well within the compass and capabilities of the youthful voices involved. This year's team includes many faces familiar to the Isle of Skye, who have been involved in the locally based Inner Sound company as both chorus members and soloists and who are thrilled to be back after the success of 'The Marriage of Figaro' last year. Three of the singers have been awarded major vocal scholarships to music conservatoires throughout the country and have given recitals around the country and on BBC radio. In ten years time, these teenagers will begin their careers in earnest and you'll be glad you saw them here first!

Title: 'Charlie is my Darling' Alan Reid of the Battlefield Band
Description: Bonnie Prince Charlie, Charles Edward Stuart, is still regarded today in Scotland and beyond as a romantic hero. Few are aware of the darker side of his nature, which ultimately contributed to both his own downfall and that of the Jacobite cause. Three actors and three musicians dramatically portray his eventful life. The actors are, Robert Howat, Paul Kozinski and Janis Marshall. Musicians are Alan Reid, on keyboards, guitar, accordion and voice; Wendy Weatherby, on cello and voice; and Rob van Sante, guitar and voice. Title: 'People's Mass' Dunedin Consort
Description: Composers: Tommy Fowler, Anthea Haddow, Christine McCombe, John Gormley, Rebecca Rowe, Malcolm Lindsay The idea behind the piece came from composer Tommy Fowler, whose 'Lullaby' was performed by Dunedin Consort in December 1999. Tommy suggested the idea of six Scottish-based composers writing one movement each of a Mass. The idea has slowly grown to incorporate the use of children’s choirs and a dancer, as well as interleaving the piece with plainsong and interludes. Each composer has written a movement (unaccompanied vocal sextet) and interlude (for one solo voice and harp) based on the accompanying plainsong for All Saints Day. The plainsong will be performed by children’s choir and Consort. The interludes will be performed by solo voice and harp, and will incorporate a dancer and lighting. These interludes are settings of poetry which each composer has chosen. There will be minimal movement within the complete work involving children and Consort, and the whole performance will be lit and semi-staged. The whole performance will last between 45 minutes and an hour. The project has attracted significant interest from local authority bodies and private funders, as well as a £20,000 National Lottery award.

Violins meet vibraphones as Fiddlesticks explores the wonderful world of the strings and the acrobatic possibilities of percussion in an interactive hour-long concert. For twenty-one years Children's Classic Concerts have been delighting children, their families and teachers with their fun-filled introduction to live orchestral music. Over the years our concerts have featured not just classical music but jazz, traditional Celtic and world music in a lively mix of entertainment and education that regularly sells out at concert halls in Scotland. For the last seven years, artistic consultants and concert hosts Owen Gunnell and Oliver Cox have wowed our audiences with their virtuoso percussion skills and madcap, energetic presenting style. They actively encourage audience participation and provide simple, amusing explanations of each piece, making the music more accessible and adding to the relaxed and inclusive experience that CCC aims to provide for each audience member. We have worked with many professional musicians and artists including the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers, Scottish percussionists Albannach, renowned harpist and composer Savourna Stevenson and actor James Mackenzie, who played CBBC's Raven. We are currently working in partnership with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Title: Inner Sound Youth Section
Description: A children's opera in one act for all the family. It lasts for 1 hour with no interval. Inner Sound is a group of enthusiastic and energetic folk who love getting together to indulge in their passion for singing. Most of our members come from Skye and Lochalsh, although there are a few who travel from as far as Inverness to join in the fun. Inner Sound would not exist without our founder, and we are grateful to Ann Lampard for her boundless energy, knowledge and enthusiasm. In her many years of successful teaching, particularly at the Junior Royal Academy of Music in London, she gained invaluable experience at getting the best out of each one of her students, and making it fun in the process! In recognition for her services to music Ann was awarded an MBE in 2015. We are delighted to have her at the helm of our own happy band of singers, and grateful for her dedication to the continuing success of Inner Sound. This is the first production with the cast drawn entirely from our younger members. Benjamin Britten wrote 'The Little Sweep' , a one act Opera, for seven teenaged voices and three adult voices. It is perfect Britten Opera in miniature, with great bouncing tunes and witty ensembles and choruses. It is set in the 19th century in a large country house in Suffolk where Juliet Brook and her sisters Sophie and Gay live. The Crome cousins, Hughie and Jonny, accompanied by their nurserymaid Rowan, are visiting the family in the school holidays and are horrified by the poor little sweep boy, who has been sold by his father to the wicked sweeps, Black Bob and Clem. The horrid housekeeper, Miss Baggot and the evil sweeps are continuously duped by the children who eventually manage to set the young sweep free with a couple of silver crowns in his pocket ! It is based upon a story supposedly told by a housekeeper in a large country house in Suffolk, where Britten lived. This lady narrated the story as it had been told to her by her grandmother. It is also a sad social comment on the abuse and exploitation of poor children in the Victorian era. Ann says what a joy and privilege it is to be able to produce and direct this challenging work using ten of the most talented young singers she has taught, and everyone of them living in Skye and Lochalsh ! Tickets - £10 and £5 for under 16s.

Title: Rhona Cougan and Welsh opera students
Description: Rhona was brought up on the Isle of Skye where her initial experience in singing came from performing traditional Gaelic songs. In 1997, she won a singing competition at the National Gaelic Mod. This led to Rhona taking private singing lessons with Ann Lampard, who was then Head of Voice at the Junior Academy of Music in London and who has since moved to Skye, where she has established 'Inner Sound'. Rhona and her husband Tom Colwell have moved from Skye to Wales so that Rhona can study at the RWCMA. Tonight she is joined by 9 other student singers and a pianist, who will perform a variety of opera/musical theatre, solo and group items, from their German, Italian and French and British song repertoire. Find out more about the RWCMD on www. Rwcmd.co.uk Making Connections: Rhona is one of many of our young talented residents whom SEALL helped to give a stage for at an early age, and who have now gone on to enjoy music as a profession.
